For the last year and a half, the covid-19 pandemic has affected most parts of the world if not all and shows no sign of abating. While much of normal life has been altered or halted, other things such as relocation do continue. Most people have been wondering how relocation works in the event of a pandemic and more crucially, are moving services still available? We can confidently confirm that trusted and professional movers are available to ease your relocations amidst the pandemic.
Over time, we’ve all come to understand that it is each person’s obligation to safeguard themselves from contracting the virus. The governments of different countries have also been playing a key role in implementing containment measures. For instance, when covid-19 was first detected in Uganda, the Government of Uganda quickly took steps to reduce the risk of it adversely affecting its citizens. Among the measures adopted were, closing access points into the country, prohibiting public meetings and public transportation, closing schools and places of worship and announcing a nationwide lockdown and curfew.
Nellions has also not been left behind when it comes to combating the spread as they offer their services to their clients. We came up with policies and guidelines aimed at reducing the risk of the spread of the disease. In the 18 months since we have routinely updated our policies to current best practices.
Shifting is sometimes unavoidable. However, if you have flexibility in your relocation date, you should wait until the rapid spread of the pandemic has subsided before relocating. This is especially important for people who are at a high risk of infection, such as those who have underlying medical issues like asthma or those who are elderly. If you do not have the luxury of flexibility in your relocation date, the next best thing to do is to work closely with a moving company to understand what they are doing and what you should also do to guarantee the safest move possible.
In order to make the process as stress-free as possible, we’ve outlined a number of things that need to be taken into consideration when relocating during a pandemic.

If possible, most communication should be done virtually to reduce contact with so many people. Prior communication is important so that both the client and the movers are on the same page in regards to moving. Also, request your moving company to carry out a virtual survey of your belongings as opposed to an in-person survey. To actualize this, Nellions Moving and Relocations Company offers video/virtual surveys of their client’s property before sending them quotes. This minimizes contact.
2. If you or anybody in your family is having symptoms of the disease, notify your moving company
Transparency is critical in ensuring everybody’s safety. In many circumstances, Nellions will continue to work with you but they will implement additional measures to protect their employees and in extreme cases, moving can be postponed to date safer for both parties.

Make sure to leave supplies ready for your movers to use while transporting your belongings to and from the moving truck to help them follow proper hygiene procedures. This includes soap and paper towels and hand sanitisers to ensure safety to the maximum. It is important to note that Nellions will also bring their own disinfectants so you don’t have to worry about running out of supplies or denting your pocket to meet this.

Cloth masks, gloves, and shoe covers are examples of appropriate protective equipment to wear while moving. This protective gear will assist you to avoid carrying the virus into your home. In addition to this, keep a safe distance of at least one meter between yourself and the movers.

In a bid to reduce the rampant spread of coronavirus, Nellions has replaced the traditional in-person surveys with virtual/video surveys. This reduces frequent contact between Nellion’s employees and clients which in turn ensures social distancing is maintained.
2. Increased sanitation
We are encouraging constant sanitation of clients belonging during relocation as well as our belongings such as moving trucks, warehouses, and offices. Our staff is also well aware of the need for constant sanitation and they are trained on how to effectively disinfect.
3. Our staff are being encouraged to get the Covid-19 vaccine
With the availability of the vaccine, our staff is in the process of getting vaccinated to enhance protection both for them and for our clients. Necessary measures have been put in place to encourage them to get the vaccine.
The introduced vaccines are safe and efficient. However, even with the introduction of vaccines, we must keep wearing masks, ensuring proper ventilation as well as physically distancing ourselves from crowds.
Getting vaccinated doesn’t really exempt us from exercising caution and putting ourselves and others safe, especially because research into the extent to which the vaccines protect us not only against disease but also infections is still ongoing.
4. Wellness checks for both Nellion’s employees and clients.
This includes surveys on the state of health in regards to the coronavirus for both employees and our clients. Any employee experiencing covid-19 symptoms is given an isolation period and encouraged not to be in contact with other employees. Wellness checks are also done for clients intending to use our services through medical surveys. It is important that you notify us if anyone else in your household has contracted the virus or is in isolation. This will either allow the company to prepare adequately and put up more protective measures or postpone the relocation to a later date.

The company providing sanitizers, disinfectants, and handwashing soaps, reduces the financial burden of a client in providing such staff. And as you might know, our clients’ comfort is our top priority. Our staff is also reminded to keep sanitizing from time to time.
