If you have got an apartment move coming up in Kampala, the biggest favour you can do yourself is starting four weeks out and having a mover in the picture from day one. That is really the idea behind this checklist.

Apartment moves have a few extra layers that a standalone house move does not for example lifts, security, staircases, restricted parking, buildings with rules about what hours movers can even be on site. None of that is hard to manage. It just needs more lead time than people usually give it. So here is how we would suggest building your checklist, week by week, with Nellions in the picture the whole way through.

4 Weeks Out: Lock In the Date and Bring Us In Early

This is the stage to make the big decisions, and it’s also the point where getting us involved early makes everything downstream easier.

Confirm your move date with everyone who needs to sign off on it. Your current landlord, your new property manager, and us. If you are in an apartment complex, check whether there are set hours or booking procedures for movers to access the building. We will ask about this too, but it is worth you confirming it directly with your building management as well.

Book Nellions as early as you can. The earlier we are involved, the more properly we can plan your move rather than being placed in any slot on the calendar. When you reach out to us, we will usually want to come and look at your apartment or talk through it with you in detail so we can work out how many movers you will need, how much packing material to bring, what size vehicle makes sense, and whether the building has stairs, a lift, or tight parking we should plan around. We will also talk with you about packing services, furniture handling, storage if your move-out and move-in dates don’t line up perfectly, and insurance for your belongings so you know exactly what is covered before moving day, not on it.

Start decluttering while you still have the time. Go through your clothes, kitchen items, furniture, electronics, documents, books, and decorations in order to confirm what is actually coming with you. Keep, sell or donate whatever works. The less our packing team has to pack and carry, the faster and cheaper the whole move becomes.

3 Weeks Out: Let Our Packing Team Take Over

Tell us what is fragile or needs special handling. You know your own belongings best anything breakable or sentimental, flag it to us. Our team labels every box by room as we pack it. Anything fragile is labelled, packed and packaged accordingly for safe delivery and unloading at your new place.

2 Weeks Out: Reconfirm With Us and Walk the Access Points

Get back in touch with us to reconfirm the details. Date, arrival time, your current location, the new apartment, roughly what is being moved, and anything unusual like a piano, artwork, or furniture that will need disassembling. If anything about your move has changes since you booked, this is the time to tell us.

Walk through access at both apartments and pass that on to us. This is where apartment moves genuinely differ from house moves, narrow staircases, a lift that may or may not take a sofa, basement parking, security gates, restricted parking near the entrance, or a long carry from where the truck can park to your front door. The more we know about this in advance, the better we can plan the equipment and the team size for your move.

1 Week Out: Final Prep on Your Side

Put together an essentials box and keep it with you. Phone chargers, toiletries, medication, important documents, a change of clothes, towels, basic kitchen items, water, snacks. This is really the one box we would suggest you pack yourself, since it is personal and needs to stay with you rather than go into the truck.

Point us to anything left in cupboards, drawers, wardrobes, or shelves that still needs to come out. Our team will pack it, and handle wrapping and protecting your larger furniture, as

Moving Day, With Nellions

Walk through every room is done one last time. Our team arrives and takes it from there wrapping furniture, carrying and loading boxes, transporting everything, and unloading at your new apartment. Before transportation, do one final check with us of the spots people usually forget bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen cupboards, balconies, storage spaces, behind doors, and any parking or storage areas you were using which saves a trip back later.
